LJ Govoni (also written L.J. Govoni) is a finance and operations executive — a client CFO to founder-led and private equity–backed businesses in food, beverage, alcohol, and CPG. Across just under two decades he has served as CFO, COO, and President, doing his best work where the path isn't clear, the margin for error is thin, and the leader at the table has to be as comfortable on the production floor as in the boardroom.
His background spans the industries where margin compression, inventory complexity, and working-capital pressure aren't abstractions — they are the business. He has led inside PE-backed portfolio companies with institutional boards, founder-led operators, and early-stage startups, and he knows what each stage demands of a financial leader: building from scratch, scaling through growth, managing through constraint, and positioning for exit. As former CFO of Nuevo Garcia Foods and a senior leader across multi-brand holding companies, he has sat across from private equity sponsors and beside plant managers on the floor — and is equally fluent in both conversations.
Earlier in his career, LJ founded and operated businesses in specialty finance and e-commerce serving the craft beverage industry — including Boston Capital Leasing, which he built, ran, and later wound down. That work gave him a vantage point most operators never get: analyzing hundreds of businesses through the lens of a capital allocator before ever running one. The pattern recognition from that period — what separates a business that compounds from one that quietly erodes — informs every engagement he takes on today.
He now brings that experience to founder-led food, beverage, and CPG companies as a fractional and client CFO, most recently through Split Oak Advisory Group, where the work is hands-on rather than advisory-from-a-distance. His focus areas span capital raises and M&A across the full capital stack, PE-backed board reporting and covenant compliance, financial turnarounds and margin discipline, ERP and cost-accounting infrastructure, and manufacturing finance — yield, shrink, labor efficiency, and COGS architecture.
Beyond his operating roles, LJ is a Lecturer in Business Finance at the University of Texas at San Antonio's Carlos Alvarez College of Business, has spoken at the Craft Brewers Conference, and has served on the Brewers Association's Finance Committee. He was named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal's 40 Under 40 in 2023.
He holds graduate degrees in accounting and finance — an M.Acc from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and an MSF from the University of Tampa's John H. Sykes College of Business — along with a B.A. from John Carroll University. He is an Eagle Scout and is based in San Antonio, Texas.
